My name is Brandon Odam and I am a 3-year starting QB at Taylorville High School in Illinois. My team went 11-1 and ended the season in the Quarterfinals this year.
I started playing football when I was five years old. Ever since I can remember, my dream has always been to play college football. My hope is that I will have the opportunity to play college football and at the same time receive a high-quality education. In school, I'm a good student. I have made honor roll every year of my life and at the present time, I have a 3.8/4.0 - 4.7/5.0 GPA. I have a great work ethic on the field and in the classroom. I am extremely passionate and am very competitive by nature. I love to win and hate to lose. However, I have learned that with every loss comes a lesson learned and experience you can’t get any other way. I am a quick study and like to put time into game film to get better each week.
Something you may not see in my game film is that I try to be the best teammate I can. I know it's my job to lead by example and keep calm in pressure situations. It is simply not in my nature to panic. If there is time on the clock, you will never see me panic or give up. I try to keep my teammates' heads in the game when I see they're down. I try to be their biggest supporter and encourage them to give 110% in the off-season, at practice and with every play of the game. I'm not one to place blame on my teammates and coaches. We win and lose as a team. I believe I have developed good leadership skills and have the respect of my teammates. Though I was blessed with some natural abilities, I know that is not enough. I put a lot of effort in the offseason - in the weight room, private coaching and camps. Additionally, I put extra time into studying defenses. I have always been a sponge and am willing to take criticism and learn from it. My coaches have credited me with being very coachable and being a fast learner.
Off the football field, I realize my role puts me in the spotlight and my every move can determine what comes next for me and my team. Therefore, I try to make choices that will not negatively affect me or my team in any way. Also, I know it is important, especially in the QB position, to stay humble. I have a team of guys and a community watching to see how I handle myself and I take great pride in that. My goal is to continue learning and developing into a great college quarterback for a program that wants to win as much as I do, and to develop good relationships with my teammates and coaches.
