Personal Statement
Coaches,
I am very interested at continuing my football career in college. I am determined to make myself a difference maker for my collegiate team. For Guerin Catholic, I am a 3 year varsity starter, a 4 year varsity letter winner. I was a starter on defense my sophomore year, due to team needs, and switched to starting wide receiver my junior year. I was also my team's punter during my junior and senior years. I am a very hard working and coachable young man, always helping my team do what it takes to win games. I received recognition as an All-State WR, Academic All-State, Team MVP, Team Offensive POY, and All-Circle City Conference. My position coach (WR) stated in my year end evaluation that I had the "best attitude from a player in my 22 years of coaching". The Circle City Conference is pound for pound the toughest in the state of Indiana, having 3 state champions last year at the 4A, 3A, and 1A levels. Guerin Catholic football plays one of the toughest schedules in Indiana.
For my wide receiver position, I have outstanding hands, improving speed with a 4.56 40-yard dash, excellent quickness with a 4.19 5-10-5, and run excellent pass patterns using my quickness to get separation from opposing defensive backs. I am young for my grade (birthday is July 31, 2004), which means while I have a ton of varsity experience, I am still developing physically. Defensively, I have learned Hawk tackling techniques and have developed into an excellent tackler. I have deflected many passes in my career and do an excellent job in pass coverage. While I am confident in my abilities, I know that I still have a lot of improvement that I can make and I am driven to do so at both positions.
In addition to football, I am a defensive starter for one of the best high school lacrosse programs in Indiana, winning the state title last year. I mention this because I balance my sport activities with maintaining a 3.72 weighted GPA while taking the most difficult course work available at Guerin Catholic with their International Baccalaureate Program. I have submitted my documentation to the NCAA clearinghouse to become eligible. I have volunteered my time to various charities including food pantries; coaching youth basketball, football, and lacrosse; and concessions for local Catholic Youth Organization games. This balance of school, sports, charity, and religious activities demonstrates my time management skills and shows my abilities to prioritize my activities with my social and family life.
I sincerely appreciate your interest in me as a perspective student-athlete of your school. Thank you.
v/r,
Ryan Glenn, Guerin Catholic High School Class of 2022, WR/CB
