Personal Statement
My name is Sage Ehresman. I am 5’8”, 170 lbs as a junior at Lynnville-Sully in Sully, IA. I have played varsity my past 3 years of high school, starting two of those three years. Throughout my high school career I have played a lot of positions on the varsity level: running back, slot receiver, quarterback, fullback, return man (kickoff and punt return), linebacker (inside and outside), defensive end, defensive tackle, corner, safety, kicker and a linemen on punt. To say the least, I’ve done it all. Through all the moving around, I spent most of my sophomore year at quarterback because that is where the team needed me most. About a year later, midway through the fourth game my junior year, I regained the running back position I have worked so hard for. In the last four games I ran for 709 yards on 72 carries.
Ever since I was little, I always looked up to the varsity players like they were heroes, like any other kid. The only difference was when I went into 7th grade my mindset was on becoming better than the players I have always watched and who were currently in high school playing. Seamless to say I had some big goals to attain, having watched players like Zach Davis, who played QB at UNI, James Vandenberg, who played at Iowa, Colten Greiner, who ran track at Iowa, Kyle Terlouw, who is currently at Iowa, and many more. Never less, I worked my tail off for years. I knew what it took to become as good as they were, a lot of hard and smart work as well as a lot of dedication. As a freshman, most of the team was filled with a stacked set of players who made the quarterfinals. However, I found a spot on kickoff and ended up having almost 20 tackles just on kickoff. Coming into my sophomore year, I was one of the better athletes on the team, third fastest, second quickest and one of the strongest. I was used as a utility player, moving from slot to fullback. After week 4, I moved to quarterback, where we went on a six game winning streak with a powerful senior line and backfield. My junior year I started at quarterback. After the first game, me being at running back was evident. After 2 games on the sideline because of a muscle strain, I ended up at fullback, only to soon return to the tailback position. At the end of the season I was awarded first team all-district and selected captain by my teammates.
I take my academics very seriously. I maintain above a 3.8 GPA at all costs, I have received the academic all-district award all three years in every sport. I take special interest in exercise science and nutrition. I have used my knowledge about different training techniques to create a plan for me to follow to become the best I can and become better than those before me. Through this training I have cut over half a second on the 40, added ten plus inches on my vertical, dropped almost a second on my 5-10-5 shuttle, all while gaining 20-25 lbs. Not only am I focused on my athletic ability and grades, I am also involved in an abundance of other extra-curricular activities. With four sports I am also involved in National Honor Society, student council, FFA (officer), speech and drama, Big Brothers Big Sisters and student government.
