Personal Statement
My name is Spencer Daufeldt, I come from red tractors and Chevy trucks, and from cornfields and cattle. I come from working late and getting up early to do chores before practice. I have developed leadership and communication skills through 4-H and FFA, and being a four-sport athlete. I value learning with eagerness and playing with integrity.
I have committed myself to getting stronger, faster, and smarter all for my future and the game I love-football. Double teamed or not, I will get my job done. I want to continue acting as a dynamic force on the field and I want coaches educators who will push me to be the strongest player/ student, both mentally and physically, that I can be.
I am currently a West Liberty Comet, but most of all I am a leader and good teammate to my fellow Comets. I give 110% on and off the field and expect and facilitate the same effort from all players and of my coaches. There is no task too big, no challenge too tough.
My passion for football is endless but I am also passionate about other things in life. I strive for excellence in the classroom and have received many academic all-conference honors. I am on the Principles (3.5) honor roll and next year as a junior I will apply to become part of the National Honor Society.
West Liberty high school is very diverse. I have been apart of their dual language program since I was 4 years old. This means that I have had Spanish in my curriculum since that time, it also means about 70% of my classmates were of a different race. Through all of this I have developed a great understanding of the Hispanic culture and how to be accepting of other people even though they may be very different than me. This experience is very rare and has been extremely valuable to me and my siblings.
I am also very involved in my community. I belong to St. Joseph's Catholic Church and am committed to mowing and weed eating their cemetery during the spring and summer. I also enjoy my time in 4-H and FFA where I have gained many life skills and knowledge that will help to facilitate my dreams of one day helping operate and manage our family farm.
My FFA and 4-H clubs do numerous community service projects throughout the year, of which I participate and enjoy. I am currently working on getting my Iowa Farmer degree through FFA and will then will work on obtaining my American degree.
Being named to 2nd team All-State in football as a sophomore was a tremendous honor, but is not enough. That award was just "fuel on the fire" to make me work harder, train harder and make an even bigger statement better next year. My coaches often meet with me to discuss strategy, changes, and team dynamics because they know that I have extreme knowledge of the game and that my teammates look up to me and respect me on and off the field.
I train for all my sports diligently. I work with my strength & agility and weight lifting trainer 3 days a week during school and 4 days a week during the summer. Along with that I plan to attend multiple individual and team camps and a combine clinic this spring/summer.
Along with my passion for football I enjoy basketball, baseball, and track. All these have helped prepare me to pursue my goal to play football while in college with confidence and know that no dream is too big if you are passionate enough and willing to work for it.
