I finished my junior year ranked fourth in the state for tackles. I was also the second best tackler in the 4a division. I amassed 135 tackles after ten games. (nine regular season and one post-season game) I also was nominated for week 9, 4a Player of the Year by Vype Magazine.
This love of tacking started back in third grade. Wrapping someone up and bringing them to the ground was, and still is, absolutely exhilarating. Even when I was little, I would walk out on that field and become a leader; calling plays and making tackles. (This is why I didn’t excel in basketball, I got a lot of technicals!)
This sport has given me confidence and helped me realize I have strong leadership skills. Most of my football teams throughout elementary and middle school had mediocre records. It was through these losses and tough seasons that I learned to be fierce, play mad, hit hard and use those emotions to excel on the field instead of giving into defeat. I learned to set goals for myself even though we were losing so I personally was playing well despite my circumstances.
Even though football is a huge part of who I am, my family is truly my foundation. Their faith and example have really kept me grounded. I have a huge family: two biological brothers, three adopted sisters, and two foster sisters, so it goes without saying that helping around the house and with the kids was expected. I mean my mom made me do my own laundry by 6th grade! This dynamic has made me independent and I hope to pursue a nursing degree and eventually become a nurse anesthetist like my older brother.
