Personal Statement
In my hometown, there have been a lot of talented athletes whose decisions directly effected whether or not they played sports at the next level. I noticed this at a very young age, and to this day, it has bothered me. I don’t want to work my entire youth just to be told that I’m not good enough to make it to the next level...or my grades aren’t good enough...or even that I don’t have a great work ethic. I want to be great, and I want people to remember my part in restoring the greatness my school once held.
Though my parents want me to stay in-state, they have told me that they will support any decision that I make! I haven’t made my mind up if I want to play in or out of state. What I do know is that I’d like to play for a Division 1 school, and obviously if no D1 schools offered, I would want to continue playing at whatever level holds the best opportunity for myself and family.
I believe my ability to be a leader and my work ethic are big parts of what makes me a good candidate, but my best quality is my passion for the sport. Whether it is watching NFL/College football highlights, studying our opponents’ film, designing my fish tanks as a football field, playing Madden on PlayStation, working out, griping at my teammates for not showing up to practice, or playing in the games, my love for the sport is always there.
When it comes to my character, athletics, and academics, there is room to improve. I still get in trouble with my parents, I’m not always the greatest athlete on the field, and I don’t yet have a 4.0 GPA. But my desire and hustle will outshine everyone else you see. You will not see me being outworked. I know that we only have one life, and I would like to be viewed as a winner, on and off the field! I would like to stay all four years (in college) and get my degree, so that even after football, I can provide for my family and myself.
Though there are many other athletes that write these personal statements, work out for the next level, and have dreams of making it in football, I would like my dream to become reality. I know it isn’t easy, it wasn’t easy during Jim Brown’s day, and it’s not easy in this day and age, but if you are willing to work, like I am, then who can tell you that you can’t make it? I will make sure that I am a great man, athlete, brother, son, husband, father, and everything else that I will need to be in life, and I’m aware that my college and coaches are an important part of that, so I’ll continue to work so that I give myself as many options as possible.
