Personal Statement
My name is Cody Murphy. I'm a sophomore at Ohio County High School (home of the Eagles). I'm from a small town in Kentucky of only about 400 people. I started playing sports when I was about three. The first organized sport I played was baseball. All throughout my childhood I played whatever kind of sport there was, baseball and soccer in the summer, football in the fall, and basketball in the winter. I attended Horse Branch Elementary, I was the star athlete there. I started playing for a traveling baseball team when I was about ten. From there I went to Ohio County Middle School, I played football, basketball, and baseball while in attendance. I started varsity baseball as an eighth grader, receiving the Rookie of the Year award. Going into ninth grade, the high school football coach resigned. A new coach wasn't hired until July, right after dead period. I had the opportunity to start my freshman year as a running back. Racking up close to 900 yards, in what is considered one of the toughest districts in Kentucky earned me the Newcomer of the Year award. That following baseball season my efforts on and off the field earned me the Golden Glove award. Before my sophomore football season I set a goal to rush for at least 1,000 yards. Thankfully in my last regular season game I managed to exceed that goal, gaining 191 yards to put my seasonal total over 1,000. With this accomplishment, I received an Honorable Mention in the Big Eight (the coaches' choice of the top eight players in the region). I believe I have the tools to play at the next level. Not only am I dedicated and hard-working, but I am also very coachable. I have always gotten along with my fellow teammates and all of my coaches. I have always tried to look forward, have a short memory, and a good attitude, I know these attributes are essential to any collegiate athlete's career. I am currently working toward a Commonwealth Diploma, the highest and most prestigious diploma in the state of Kentucky. I have always had good grades, and I have had no behavioral problems while attending middle school or high school. I'm an active Christian and member of East Hartford Baptist Church youth group. My plans after high school are to attend college, majoring in psychology and minoring in theatrical arts. I hope to one day play professional football.
