Personal Statement
I have loved playing football since I started playing flag football in kindergarten. By second grade I was bored with flag and wanted to play tackle, so the coaches bumped me up to that level. Fast forward a few years to me coming out of middle school. Our team had a good successful winning record. I was so excited as a freshman to play high school football; however, that year was very discouraging, we had a 2-8 record. To look in the stands and see very little fan support was even more discouraging. I look back now and see that it only helped me grow as a player and a person. It helped me focus on being a better player and leader. My sophomore year I was fortunate enough to be part of a program that was working its way back with a 7-4 record, and we were able to help our coach with his 300th win (man, what a night). During my junior year we had another amazing year with an 8-3 record and tied for the best season in school history.
From coming from the bottom and fighting our way back to a winning record, and the stands packed on Friday nights, I feel this sport has taught me the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and leadership. I look forward to playing for a program that will be a good fit athletically and academically. I believe I have the talent to compete at the college level and the character, work ethic and leadership to make an immediate impact wherever I end up. Throughout elementary, middle and high school I have been a 3 sport athlete and a 3 year varsity player in high school. I feel this will help me to have what it takes to be a leader to my team.
