Personal Statement

I am a 6'3" 290 pound senior offensive Center at Bastrop High School, in Bastrop Louisiana. I am coached by Coach Brad Bradshaw (318) 669-3850. For more and better video of me, please click on the "Schedule/Press" at the bottom of your screen and you will be able to view a 6 minute highlight tape from my entire senior 2010 season. As a senior, I had 78 pancake blocks in 13 games, was selected as First Team All-Conference Center, selected to play Center in the Louisiana/Mississippi All-Star Game, selected First Team All-Northeast Louisiana best offensive lineman for Big Schools (4-A and 5-A), and was named Academic All-State in 4A. Last year, as a junior I was 1st Team All-Northeast Louisiana Offensive Lineman, 1st Team All-Conference Offensive Center, Max Emfinger 5 star National Top 250 2011 recruit and selected to play Center in Max Emfinger's 2011 All-American Bowl Game Classic with 0 sacks allowed, 0 penalties all year and 60 pancake blocks for the year. In selecting me the best offensive lineman in Northeast Louisiana, the Monroe News-Star said the following about me, "Division I recruit was leader up front for Ram offense that allowed quarterback to record More than 3,677 yards passing and running backs to rack up 1,588 yards on the ground averaging 122 yards rushing and 282.8 yards passing per game." I have received multiple DI offers. I am presently in the ESPN Scouts, Inc., Rivals and Scout college football recruiting databases for 2011 Centers. My position coach is John Bachman, last year's head coach at state champion Evangel High School. I can graduate early from Bastrop High School in December 2010 and can enroll in college in January 2011. In my 2010 highlight film on this website, I repeatedly pancake #72 for Rayville, Gerrand Johnson, a DT for Rayville that has received offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and many other major DI-A schools. Gerrand Johnson is a highly ranked Rivals DT. The first play on my 2010 highlight tape is me manhandling Gerrand Johnson. My 2010 highlight tape also shows me pancaking DTs from West Monroe High School, a top 5 nationally ranked high school with several D-I offered DTs including Chuck Hunter who has multiple D-IA offers from about a dozen colleges. I have played on the varsity team since my freshman year. I started every game my senior, junior and sophomore years. I enjoy center because I am a leader and I see and read the defenses at center and call out the blocking schemes along the line. I made all calls for the entire offensive team on the field in our no-huddle offense at Bastrop. As a senior in 13 games, I had 78 pancake blocks. Our team finished at 11-2. In 12 games my junior year, I recorded 60 pancake blocks. I love to hit and blow up all defensive players. My goal is to be an outstanding major D-1A level offensive Center, who has mastered all of the technical aspects of my position, the assignments of all offensive lineman and is a complete "student of the game" and leader on the field and gets it done. I am committed to getting better and better. We scrimmaged and beat #1 in 5A in Louisiana and #6 in the nation West Monroe High School and beat them on their home field 14-13. I had an outstanding game. I love football and understand the hard work and effort required to start and play at the college level. I am looking for a school where I can become a student athlete who excels on and off the field. Academics are very important to me. I presently have a 3.89/4.0 GPA and scored a 28 on the ACT. I am ranked #10 in my Class of 232 academically. When I graduate high school, I will have earned in excess of 30 college credits. I am considering a career as a college football coach and I want to learn and study as much about the game as I can. I am a student of the game, and spend countless hours watching tape and film to be the best prepared player on the field at all times. I plan on majoring in business, obtaining a master's degree in business, and then possibly attending law school. I attended college football camps over the summer at LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, SMU, and Louisiana Tech and had outstanding performances at each of these camps. I am open to considering all universities and levels of competition as well as sizes of schools. Finding the right fit athletically and academically is what will help me make the decision of which university to attend. I am committed to out working the competition. I would like to be starting by my sophomore year. I love the game and can't wait to compete in college. Sincerely, Earl Ross Downs, III
