wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.”
Psalm 62 1:2
Myron La’Ray Weary is the son of Shanette Garret of Covington, and the late Rance La’Ray Weary. Myron's paternal grandparents are Arlene Weary and the late Johnny “Fat” Weary of Varnado. He is adored and inspired by his aunts, Rachel, Arlendra, and Shanita. He is the proud brother to Kaylin, Rance (RJ) and Jeremiah.
He is a competitor and loves the game of football. Myron credits his passion for football to his Father who introduced him to the sport as a Little League player. He learned the game listening to his Father teaching and helping him to overcome his fears and learn to compete. Myron played four years of highschool football at Ben's Ford as a lead Offensive and Defensive Lineman. He sometimes confused his competitors by switching to the position of Running Back and scoring with his unstoppable speed to their surprise. Myron is fierce on the football field, bringing competitiveness and compassion but also good character, and humility.
Myron faced obstacles during his Junior year in football; he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis causing him to sit out the season. Although he was devastated, he never gave up and he committed to returning to the field. He never failed to ask the medical team, “when can I play football again?” at each medical appointment. He continued supporting and encouraging his teammates. His Junior year was just a test of his faith, but he trusted God and he was finally released to return to the game with vengeance and he was not shaken.
He is recognized in school and the community as the “Gentle Giant.”' Although he experienced many heartbreaks, losing the two most important men in his life, his Father and Grandfather whom he adored; he never gave up. These obstacles only made him more determined and stronger. He was left with a legacy of being an overcomer which made him more driven to be successful. Myron never complained, but worked harder with his diagnosis.
He continued to serve in Second Chance Apostolic Faith Church’s Youth Ministry and played the drums. He found his peace as a volunteer serving the elderly in the community mowing yards and helping with tasks around the community. Like his Father, Myron loves to make people laugh and lightens up the room with his smile. Yes, he’s a giant in stature, a competitor on the football field, but he is kind as a lamb and has a humble spirit that loves the Lord.
Myron received an athletic scholarship to attend Mississippi Preparatory School in Biloxi Mississippi after graduation and will be playing for the Hurricanes. His ultimate goal is to major in Sports Management and to coach other young men in the game of football and life. He will show them that “The most successful people see adversity not as a stumbling block, but as a stepping stone to greatness.”
