My hard work and dedication to sports and academics paid off when I was chosen as a freshman to play varsity. Being chosen to play varsity was not my only goal; I had high hopes of starting our first game. But, when my name wasn’t called by Coach, I knew I had to do something more. During those next two weeks of practice, I brought my athletic and mental abilities to a whole new level. The increase in mental discipline, drive, and determination resulted in me earning the starting spot a senior had held for 2 years.
After that point, I made sure that I wouldn’t be outworked, or ill prepared, to lose my starting position. Since then, I have been a starter for every game we have played. The experience of not being named a starter initially, has increased my resolve to be the best and work harder every day to excel and attain my goals.
