I have always been the tallest and biggest kid in my school including other athletes from surrounding towns. Because of my size and strength, I was always afraid to hurt someone, so my parents put my focus on baseball and didn’t let me play tackle football until this 8th grade because other kids finally added 4 inches and 20 lbs. By the end of our 8-game season, I was just warming up and looking for ways to extend my season.
I tried out and was selected to play in a four-day tournament on the Next Generation Elite All Star Boston Football Team at the Pro Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Although I didn’t know it at the time, this was the moment when I went from being a focused baseball player, who hit 14 home runs last season, to a committed football player.
In Ohio, I was no longer the biggest or the strongest. I had to adapt and survive among exceptional athletes from across the country. That experience revealed my true character both on and off the field. Just two months later, I was playing as the OT for Team East in the Pro Hall of Fame All American Game in Orlando, FL. After experiencing a week of camaraderie, great coaching, elite competition, focused intensity and victory, my commitment and passion for the game of football forever changed.
My size has always brought me attention and I love to make others laugh and smile. You won’t find me isolated with just one group but able to be part of any group and add value. I have been raised to live life by being engaged in the action, being adventurous, taking calculated risks and living this one life I have been given to the fullest, not by sitting on the sideline. We can’t take back time and my parents have always made sure that we live with purpose.
My parents have given me an opportunity to attend Cushing Academy a private boarding high school. Here I will build a strong academic foundation for college, build authentic lifelong friendships and be able to continue to give back to our community. Four years from now, I will be a better football player but more importantly a better human being.
