Personal Statement

I am the man that I am today only because I stand on the shoulders of a great family, mentors, and coaches who poured into me. I was raised in a home where church, family, service and hard work were foundational. I have been involved in sports since I was a little kid.  I have always wanted to be a part of any sport that I could. I am not wired to be a spectator on the field, nor in life. I am highly motivated, driven, and competitive with a determination to win. From sports, I have learned that working together as a team and not as individuals, brings you closer to your ultimate goal- winning. I have been taught to always keep a positive attitude even if you're the underdog and that your attitude pre-game has an effect on the outcome of the game. I have found that I thrive when juggling athletics, and academics. I was fortunate to play 3 sports throughout high school- baseball, basketball, and football (11 of the 12 seasons). I have had the privilege of being involved in 6 mission trips, including Haiti. This may surprise some to know that my favorite part of mission trips was playing with the children and holding babies.

Some noteable characteristics are my ability to keep calm under pressure.  I'm a competitor/baller. My high school baseball coach said in a Senior-Athlete Spotlight article, "Angelo is a competitor. His teammates rely on his calm demeanor in high pressure situations. His ability to process information at game speed impacts the game greatly. Angelo is a good teammate and a better person. His thoughtful spirit influences all the people around him. His attitude and effort have made the baseball program better than when he first arrived." My goals in college are to excel academically and to give my all to whatever I do, on and off the field.  I am quite versatile and can play multiple positions. Another goal of mine is to be making big plays in tight situations whether I'm playing offence, defence or special teams.  Bottom line:  I will be “LAYING DOWN THE HAMMER”.  And as my coach said, I have the goal of leaving the school and team better than when I first arrived.
