Personal Statement

My name is Zachery Teed and I am a 18-year-old senior at Bridgman High School. We are a small, rural district in Southwest Michigan, in the BCS Conference. (Berrien-Cass-St. Joe County). I currently play varsity football for Bridgman, in the Southwest Michigan 8-Man Football Conference, which was recently expanded. During my freshman year, I played on a combined 11-Man junior varsity football team with New Buffalo, as the South County Cougars. I also played some on varsity that year. I play the offensive guard position,  where I can and have played left and right guard. On defense, I play both the nose tackle and end position on the line. During my freshman year, I earned my varsity letter for football and the Workout Warrior Award. That year, in the spring, I was awarded a BCS Conference Student Leadership Award from our Athletic Department. My sophomore year, I was awarded the Lineman Award, Step-Up Player of the Year Award, and my second varsity letter. My junior year, we won a four team tournament and went 7-1. (The tournament was not an MHSAA Playoff). Although football is my main sport/focus, I also play varsity basketball (center/ #5 position). My freshman year, I played both freshman and junior varsity basketball. I throw shot put and discus for varsity track and field both my freshman and sophomore year.

In the classroom, I maintain a 4.2 GPA while taking the advanced path for academics, including AP Government in the past and am currently taking AP Calculus, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Computer Science Principles. I have been on the Honor Roll every year. I received an academic varsity letter and Honor Roll pin during my freshman year. I was recently inducted into National Honor's Society and I'm undecided about what I would like to major in for college, but I am interested in Physical Therapy, Engineering, and Law/Forensics.

I am active in my community. I have participated in many things both in and out of school. In middle school, I was in a chess club, Boys Advocacy and Mentoring, and Football Fridays club. I was a volunteer student ambassador for middle school career day. In High School, I joined DECA my freshman and sophomore year, I was chosen to attend a leadership conference my freshman year by my athletic director. My junior year, I joined Key Club and was inducted into National Honor's Society. My eighth-grade year I was confirmed as a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church which also meant that I completed 20 hours of community service. I continue to attend and serve at that church as an Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion and an Altar Server. In December 2019, our city put out an announcement that they needed volunteers to help sandbag the city beach to protect the Weko Beach House, from erosion. I gathered my football team and we helped out at that event and it meant a lot to me because I was an employee at the Weko Beach and Campground over summers 2019, 2020, and 2021. I look forward to working there again this summer.

I plan to attend a college that is a great academic and personal fit for me, and I would be honored to play football. I look forward to college visits this upcoming spring, working out to improve in football, and becoming a leader on and off the field my junior year.

Thank you for reviewing my personal statement,

Zach
