Personal Statement
I am asking you to consider me for a roster spot with your football team. I am currently a senior at Vicksburg High School and will be attending college in the fall semester of 2012. I have been the starting strong-side linebacker since my sophomore season. My team, the Vicksburg Bulldogs, qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in 17 years this past season. On a personal level, I am 6'2.5"/226 lbs and still growing! I was named to the 1st Team All-Conference team and Honorable Mention All-Area as a linebacker my junior year. I am a captain of our team this year. AS a senior, I have been named 1st team all-conference linebacker and 1st team all conference OT. The Kalamazoo Gazette named me to their 1st team All Area team as a LB and the Associated Press named me All State LB as an Honorable Mention..
This season, I made147 tackles, 22 tackles for losses, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 pass knock downs and 5 sacks. I was named Defensive Star in week 6 by the Kalamazoo Gazette for their coverage area of Southwest Michigan.
I am also a starter for my school's varsity basketball team and a 3 year varsity letter member of our track team. I compete at the .300 m hurdles, high jump and shotput. I am a very hard worker and willing to do the things it takes to win. My junior season I went to my coach and requested I switch from WR/TE to OT as our starting OT had a serious injury and I felt I could help our team by making the position change. I have always been a team leader and I know that I can compete at college level. I believe I have the potential to play multiple positions on the football field such as; DE or LB on defense and/or TE on offense. I am registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse, number 1008206890.
This off-season I am again working with a former college strength and agility coach to maximize my potential.
Academics are very important to me; I am a member of the National Honor Society and carry a 3.84 G.P.A. and my class ranking is 20/218. I received a 26 on the ACT test, which I took on March 3, 2011. I have re-scheduled the ACT to take on Dec. 10th, 2011 as 28 is my goal.
I am open to different types of college and universities where I would have an opportunity to challenge myself academically and athletically. Tom Marchese, my varsity football head coach, played quarterback at Villanova, coached at Wagner College and Sacred Heart and can be reached at 269-321-1277 or by email at [email protected]. If you have any questions please contact me ([email protected], 269-649-3871 hm or 269-832-7490 cell), my parents ([email protected] 269-365-8391 Jim) or Coach Tom Marchese.
Again, thank you for considering me for a position your team. It is my dream to play college football and I have established my workout and training goals to make it come true.
