Personal Statement
Hello, I’m Colton Rada. A 6’3 285 pound sophomore from Chaska, MN who is a multi-sport athlete. My mom is a math teacher at the middle school in Eden Prairie, MN. She is a single mother to me and my younger sister Courtney, who has had some mental health struggles. She doesn't have much support and I have watched her give all she can to us and to her students, with little in return. There are times when it has been a struggle for me with the added responsibility and needing to put others first.
My grandfather has stepped up been the positive male influence in my life. He always reminds me that nothing in life is guaranteed and we need to persevere, work hard, contribute what we can and be grateful for what we have. He was a fullback on NDSU’s first national championship team his junior year, and was caption his senior year. Because I would like to be the type of man my grandfather is and I have been blessed with his genetics, football has always been a passion for me. I feel like it is a part of who I am. My athletic goal is to play football for a Division 1 school, either on the offensive or the defensive line.
School itself has never been easy for me because I have Autism and I’ve always had trouble paying attention. I have always worked hard and I have a 3.0 GPA which I am really proud of. Recently, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and was put on medication. Since then school has totally turned around for me. Knowing what it is like to struggle when things seem easy for othes has helped me develop a passion for wanting to look out for and help others who need it. That is why my academic goal is find a career where I utilize my two greatest loves: athletics and helping others.
The obstacles I have overcome in my life have made me a better person. I am not sure of what my future holds but I am certain that I will always work as hard as I can to be the best possible Colton: for me, for my family and friends, for the team, for the school, for everyone.
