Personal Statement
As a three sport athlete I have learned a lot about myself through Football, Nordic Ski, and Track. Each sport has taught me many lessons that have helped me not only on the field, track, or trail, but also outside of sports. In Football I am part of a brotherhood. Every man on the field has to work together to accomplish a single goal. I depend on them and they depend on me. Like being a part of a puzzle, to succeed as a team, each person needs to do their very best even though they are doing different things. Unlike Football, Nordic Ski and Track are "individual" team sports where I'm simultaneously competing with and against my teammates. We're all pushing each other to our best performances but in the end, a successful race for one teammate can bump another friend and teammate out of the running. Being part of all of these sports has taught me to work with and respect a lot of different types of people, some who are really different from me, which is valuable in all aspects of life, inside and outside of sports.
I have been awarded captain for this spring's 2019 Track season, as well as next year's 2019 Football season and the 2019-20 Nordic Ski season and am grateful for the opportunity to further strengthen my leadership skills. I have also received the ExCEL Award for excellence in community, education, and leadership. My grades have been and always will be very important to me and I have worked hard the achieve balance between my academics and extra curricular activities in order to be successful in both. In college I want to major in Exercise Science or Pre-Physical Therapy and I believe my rigorous high school course load has helped to prepare me for the challenge of balancing college academics and athletics in the future.
