Personal Statement
My name is Will Lingold, and I have dreamed of being a student-athlete at the college level since I was 8
years old. More important than the dream is the work I have put in to achieve my goals. I have strived to
handle my business in the classroom and put myself in a position to pursue my dream. After finishing my
eighth-grade middle school season, I began working with the varsity program at the high school and
became a starter on the defensive line in the spring game of my eighth-grade year. I would find out after
the spring game that I had been playing with a completely torn meniscus for several weeks, including
the spring game. I had surgery, and it was a huge success. The only practices I have missed during my
high school career were because of the surgery and rehab. I was cleared to begin playing late in the
season of my freshman year, and when I did, I was back starting on the DL for a team that went to South
State. My sophomore year I made the switch to OL because it was what was best for my team, and even
though it were my first year at OL and I was just a sophomore, I started each game and finished the
season 2 nd team All-Conference. My junior year I switched back to my passion, DL. I love playing
defense. I love firing off the ball beating the OL and disrupting or stopping the play. I finished the season
1 st team All-Conference. I understand that in order to do what I love I must also love the grind and
working during the off-season. I work in the weight room and on the field year-round. I am and will
continue to be a good student and teammate. I will not be out-worked.
