Personal Statement

My name is Joe Collins and will be graduating in 2013 from Adrian R-III High School in Adrian, Missouri.  I’m a 4-sport varsity letterman including football, wrestling, track and baseball.  I’ve been playing football since I was in first grade and love playing OLB or SS.  I believe in participating in multiple sports has helped me both physically and mentally to prepare for the future as a dynamic leader.  I am “team player” dedicated and committed to excellence.  I have a willingness and desire to learn and have shown a great deal of maturity and responsibility.  I’m very coachable and always looking for ways to improve my skills, strength, speed and mental toughness.  My work ethic in the weight room and the classroom has paid dividends with a maximum bench this summer of 300-pounds and achieving National Honor Society membership my Junior year.

I take advantage of every opportunity available to lift weights.  I work extremely hard to get the most out of weight lifting in order to increase mental, physical and spiritual strength.  I have received the honor of being one of the top three lifters in the school.  I have only missed weights when attending various football camps out of town.

I play linebacker and running back for our football team.  I have been a starting varsity player and have lettered varsity since my freshman year.  My teammates voted me “Most Valuable Player” my junior and senior year.  I work very hard at all the things I do.  I also take pride in everything I do and all the things that I accomplish as a result of that effort.

I’m number four of seven children (4-brothers and 2-sisters).  My older brother and sisters have already graduated college.  I display character in everything I do by volunteering at the VFW annual Veterans Day celebrations. My father Bob is a lifetime VFW member and a graduate of Baker University.  My mother Frances is a civil engineering graduate of Old Dominion University.

My goal is to play football at the next level.  I’m looking for a College/University that has a NROTC program.  As a National Honor Society member, I recognize the balance between the field and the classroom.  My college plans are very important to me.  I would like to find a college that has a NROTC program.  I plan to attend a Naval Officer Program in college, and I hope to become a NAVY SEAL like my uncle.

I would like to major in Engineering and later become a Naval Officer in the Navy Seal program as a sniper.  My junior year the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) awarded me the Award of Excellence for Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity.  The MSHSAA promotes the value of participation, sportsmanship, team play, and personal excellence to develop citizens who make positive contributions to their community and support the democratic principles of our state and nation.

Sincerely, Joe Collins
