Patrick Schultz '17 Recruiting Profile

My name is Patrick Schultz and I just finished my second year of football with All-Conference and All-District honors for my defensive play.  I play for Hollister High School in Hollister Missouri.   The positions I play include defensive end and tackle as well as offensive guard and tackle for our varsity team. I start both ways and only come out of the game during kickoff. I strive every day to get better in the weight room and develop my knowledge of the game of football. I push myself every day in the weight room because I know that for me to do my part for the team I need to get as strong and as fast as I can. I put the team and my grades before anything else and think of my teammates as my brothers. I have went to several camps and plan to go to many more over the off season.

My grades are huge to me and I strive to get better in the classroom every day because I think that someone that will work hard in the classroom will have that work ethic carry on to the football field and everything else in life. As of spring 2015 I have a 3.63 GPA and my goal is to have it to a 3.8 by winter. My plans are to major in business administration and management / entrepreneurship in college.

Other than football I play golf for the school and do off season winter weights. I am the Senior class president and serve on the principle's advisory committee. I have participated in, Beta Club, Band Club, and I was a class officer my freshman year. I serve as our local FBLA chapter President as well as our District President. I am very active in my church and community. I volunteer at our Middle school as a mentor and tutor to troubled students nearly everyday.

I started playing football in the 4th grade when I attended Doniphan R-1 schools; a small town in Southeast Missouri without a school football team.  I played on a club team thru the sixth grade and then had to sit out because my hometown did not offer football.  My family moved from Doniphan to Hollister the summer before my sophomore year and my lifelong dream of playing football became a reality.  

The night of my last peewee game I was told I would never put football pads or a helmet on again because Doniphan did not have a high school football team. My problem was that I loved football and it was my passion and the only thing I wanted to do. Every day I thought about what it would be like to play football just one more time but the closest I could get to doing this was helping out with coaching the peewee team that I had played on. I loved being able to teach the kids and then watching them go on to win the championship several years. This was the closest I thought I would ever be to fulfilling my dream but I never gave up.

Then, in the July of 2014 I had an opportunity of a lifetime and it was for me to move 200 miles across the state to Hollister where one of my dad’s offices was. This brought the opportunity for me to be able to live my dream and play football in high school. The only problem was that this move would require me to move away from my Mom and 4 siblings. But, knowing this was my only chance, I took it and moved in mid-July. I jumped in to the practices after the rest of the team had been in pads all summer but after a few days of getting the hang of things I was holding my own. I never gave up and after the first JV game I was moved to the Varsity team as a defensive tackle and offensive guard and tackle. I started the third game of the season at offensive tackle and by the 4th game I started both ways and I stayed like this for the rest of the season. Then during week 7 of the season I switched to center and finished the season at center and defensive tackle. By the end of the season I was ranked third in the tri-lakes area in tackles for a loss, and also led my team in tackles for a loss. I received 2 awards at our banquet for the 2014 season and they were most improved sophomore, and the faculty award which is voted on by my teachers and is for the student that shows the best character and the best grades on the team. I also received my varsity letter.

Starting my Junior season, I knew I had big shoes to fill.  Everyday I strived to get better at practice and get bigger, faster, and stronger in the weight room. And by week 1 I could tell that the hard work that I had put in was helping out tremendously on the game field. By the end of the season I had 5 quarterback sacks, 9 tackle for losses, 26 assisted tackles, and 23 solo tackles. At the Awards Banquet I received Defensive lineman of the year, and I also received the defensive production chart award with 140 points which is for the defensive player that has the most production points at the end of the year.  Other post-season awards after my Junior season included 2nd team All District, 1st team All-Tri Lakes, and 2nd team All Conference.

I know I still have a lot to learn in the game of football but my passion and knowledge of the game gets stronger and stronger every day and I am determined to be the best person and player I can become by being active in my community, being the best teammate I can be, and never taking a day off in the weight room.
