For my personal statement, I'd like to start by giving a list of what's important to me in order of importance: God, Family, then Me. As I consider college and sports, my education ranks first with my love of football a close second. In third place would probably be a social life followed closely by spending time outdoors hunting, skiing, fishing, biking, and hiking. I hope to find a great college where I'll fit in perfectly.
I currently attend a small private High School called Manhattan Christian just outside of Bozeman, MT. My parents own a Public Safety Uniform store and they were both elite athletes "back in the day". Football has been a family tradition for me since the first time I said "Hike!" My father played defensive back at Montana State University for a short time and I have spent many hours working on my position as corner with him and the rest of my awesome coaches. Manhattan Christian co-ops with Manhattan public for Class B 11-man football. I've made the Varsity roster all 3 years, started at corner the last 2 years and am excited to be a team captain in my upcoming Senior year. My goals this year are to get my 4th and final annual Academic All-American award and be chosen as 1st Team All-State as a defensive back. The real icing on the cake would be a state championship for my team and a college football scholarship!
My off-season work outs have been full of weights and speed. I've been fortunate to work out at "The Pitt" with former NFL linebacker Dane Fletcher. My school also allows me to take weightlifting as a class every quarter. I am just coming off my winter season with the Bozeman Track Club and diving into the spring track season where I run all the short sprints and relays as well as the 400m dash. I'm 5'11" and 185lbs of speed, power, and drive! I expect to set several PR's (personal records) this year and hopefully some school records. All of my training and the reason for my time on the track is to help me get bigger, stronger, and faster on the gridiron.
I believe I will be a huge asset to my team at the next level... college football. I'm naturally upbeat, positive and a real "people person". I was elected by my peers to be the class president and I enjoy leadership positions in several organizations. Im also a leader in the classroom with one of the highest GPA's and the willingness to engage and even challenge the others with my questions and dialog. My strongest grades are in math and I hope to go into engineering, statistics, or marketing. One of my hobbies worth mentioning is playing and writing music. I sing as well as play drums, piano, guitar, and several other stringed instruments. I believe it's better to be well rounded and good at many things than to be great at just one thing.
On the field, I'm very verbal and physical. On offense, I'm known for having great hands, giving a quick move, and yards gained after contact. Defense is my favorite and I love to get into the heads of receivers. I love the BUMP in the "bump and run", the JAM at the line! I've had more penalties at the line of scrimmage when the ball was no where to be found, than pass interference calls during my coverage. My favorite games are when the coach gave me the best receiver to cover all night. It's pretty exciting to completely shut down your opponents best player!
To summarize, I'll soon be a senior in High School and I'm looking forward to college. My family is supportive, I have the grades and knowledge to be successful in college, and I'm looking for the perfect school to partner with me. I have the physical quickness, speed, strength, and smarts to play football at the next level and I hope that perfect school offers some "financial encouragement" to bring me on board.
