Personal Statement
I was born, I was raised, and I also play football. Like most other people I was born somewhere unremarkable and raised perfectly fine. I moved to a new town when I was four, I met the people who would become mentors and teachers to me. I write this to paint the picture of normalcy. My life is normal. Yet, I'm good at football. I have been given something that many of my peers were denied. I don't believe I have this talent for any reason other than luck. These words are meant to describe me as I see myself, a lucky guy. I maintain a 4.0/4.0 GPA with ease, I contend in college-level classes, and--as cliche as it sounds--I believe you have to pursue what you want to get it.
My interests wander from subject to subject, and my motivations are as complex as any other person. Football is why I am here, and I've been told by some credible and honest people that I can indeed play beyond my current level. I believe what makes me different among other athletes is a certain feeling that occurs in me while playing football. I have played football for eight years and played under many coaches. I have learned how to accept all walks of coaching. I know when and where to follow and lead. All good tools, but personally, my favorite tool is the calm that washes over mid-play. When the ball moves my body reacts differently. My mind can feel players on the other side of the field while I stare in the eyes of the opponent across from me. I don't claim to be the most graceful or powerful athlete, although I can compete, but I do claim to be a football player.
