Playing football in college has been a dream of mine since I first put pads on in the 5th grade. There has been no other sport that has inspired me to become better than I thought possible and at the same time be a part of a team. This year I have been awarded several honors, that have humbled and inspired me to continue working hard every day. My coaches believe I am a leader and named me as one of the team captains. Every day, whether on the football field, in the hallways of school, or around my town, I want to represent my school, my sport, and myself with attitudes and actions that reflect the leader I am. I have also earned a spot as a part of the 1,000 pound club in the weight room. I am the 10th person in the history of my high school to reach this goal. I was also awarded a MVP award at the Rocky Mountain Rumble Best of the West tournament.
After college I want to return to the field in a new capacity. I want to coach high school football.Currently I am coaching an 8th grade football team as they prepare for their high school careers. Watching others learn the fundamentals of the game, watching them strive to be better, and watching them unite into a team of players is inspiring to watch. Playing football in college will only enhance my ability to teach the next generation about a sport that transcends generations and unites schools and towns.
I want to continue to learn and advance in this sport. In order to do that I have to be coachable at all times and willing to continue learning. Each week, I watch my game film with a critical eye for areas to improve. The wins or losses of the team are secondary to becoming a better football player. I am a student of the sport.
I understand that I am a student first and then an athlete. I am a successful student at school. I am a quick learner and have learned how to manage my time between studies, practice and coaching. I know that this will be invaluable as I manage these things at the college level.
