My name is Shane Barnwell and within the community that I have been raised I have been a determined student, a mentor to the youth of our town and have taken opportunities to better myself when they have been presented and created more opportunities when they have not been readily available. Though I am in school myself, I have taken the time to mentor those that come from various walks of life, whether they are in need of encouragement scholastically or emotionally.

I would like to have a collegiate experience that prepares me for life after college and after the sport of football.  My goals for my collegiate education include a focus on communications and journalism backed with sports management.  In preparation for this I have attended a summer institute for young adults that provided experience in front of the camera and behind the scenes with production and editing.  This experience reinforced that this is the area of education that I will go into and will be successful in.

My time with the community of Capitan has been spent mentoring youth of the community.  I value the positive experiences of my education but most of all I value the experience of being part of a community within the sport of football and that of my family.  Coming from a small town I know that it is important to support those who come from a disadvantage where school is the positive influence in their lives and resources are scarce.  I intend on supporting my community no matter where I attend college and where my career takes me.
