Personal Statement

There is no doubt that my participation in football has had an amazing impact on my life in numerous ways. Before I began playing football I was an extremely shy individual and I wasn't really motivated to do well in school; despite the fact that I always earned good grades. I did not know that a game played with a ball made of pigskin would have such a positive effect on me as an individual. As time progressed I would soon come to a realization that football can relate to life in many ways through the words of my head coach. I will never forget his words of wisdom, he said to me, "Shavon, I noticed that you never give up and that's how you have to be in life too. Never give up on anything in life, if you want it work hard and make it happen." Those very words serve as an incentive that I refer to every time I get down and they provide me with the strength and courage necessary to continue pursuing my goals even though things may seem nearly impossible at times. Another thing that drives me to work hard is the fact that my mother struggled to raise me as a single parent after my father walked out on our family. The only thing better than seeing my mother happy is being the reason behind her happiness. She always worked hard to provide for my family and I believe that it's only right that I return the favor by making her proud whether it's by excelling on the football field or behind a desk academically. My dream is to go to college and earn a degree in biology while I train and play to become a professional football player so I can prove that hard work really does pay off and so I can make enough money to support my family and give back to my community. I fully understand that anything can be achieved if you truly give it your all, if I don't become an NFL player, I'll go to a medical school and become a pediatrician. No matter what my future profession is I will definitely be sure to take out time to come and give back to my community as much as I can. I want to show young kids that they can make their wildest dreams come true no matter how much people doubt them. Who's to say what is possible and what isn't? The only person that can stop me from accomplishing my life goals is me and I know God has a plan for me and will continue to guide me on my long journey called life.
