My name is Courtland Simmons. I live in Weddington, North Carolina and am a sophomore at Weddington High School. Weddington is in the highest level bracket of divisions in North Carolina at 4A. Last year we won the NC 4A championship and are ranked #1 in the state for the 2024 season.
I have played competitive football and basketball since 4 years old. When I graduate high school I will have 14 years of playing experience in each sport. I began playing tackle football at age 6 and when I graduate high school will have played 12 tackle seasons. I currently play A back on offense and am starting Safety on defense.
My strengths are my abilty to break and make tough plays on the ball, cover down field and put big hits on receivers and backs. Coaches have mentioned that I am one of the best tacklers in Charlotte for class of 2027 at my position. I am also a very good route runner and have excellent hands. I can block very well on pass plays and get hard yardage when needed.
After our JV season finished I was moved up to varsity for the NC high school playoffs. Our team won the NC 4A state championship. I was 1 of 3 freshman on the 65 man roster.
During the offseason of football and basketball l will train 5-6 days a week currently spending more time on safety position work and defense this year. I lift weights several times a week at school and at home. I also will train on plyometrics, agility, and football movements from March -June until team practice picks up with professional trainers who develop high school students to play at the next level.
I have also been a high performing student, earning all A's so far in high school. In addition to good grades, I have very strong school attendance and rarely miss class outside of my orthodontics appointments.
I make friends easily and often do well with becoming friends with people who are moving into our school from out of the area in their first year. I respect and have very good relationships with all of my coaches and teachers, and always will be the hardest worker on the team to set the example as the leader for all of the team to follow in practice and games.
I have a humble personality, and want my team to succeed over myself.
My goals are to continue to compete competitively year round in football as my primary sport and basketball as my secondary sport. Last spring I played for the Carolina Stars 15U team which is one of the most competitive 7v7 teams in the United States. I became friends with other high level players in the Carolinas who have the same goal as I do to play college football when they finish high school.
This Spring in 2024 I will be on the Carolina Stars 15U Grey team which is our highest-level team that plays in the most high-profile tournaments and against the other best programs in the country to compete for national championships. We have several players on our team that already hold D1 offers.
Also in High School I will continue to make A's and take an advanced class schedule to hopefully gain college level credits in as many subjects as possible.
