Personal Statement
My name is Chandler Sells. I am the youngest child to Kelly and Michael Sells. I have two older sisters, Kassidy and Kendall. We live in a small town called Copan, population 741, Salute! I go to school in a neighboring district. The name of the school is Oklahoma Union. It is made up of 3 small towns. I have attended Oklahoma Union since I was in second grade. Oklahoma Union is more so known for its FFA program as opposed to its sporting programs. I played basketball up until the end of eighth grade when I decided I didn't want to play anymore. The day I decided not to play was the day that my mom took me to CrossFit. I love doing CrossFit, I met lots of nice people. Transportation issues kept me from continuing with CrossFit during the school year, so that's when I got into weightlifting at school. As a junior in high school, I met Coach Winbigler. He was my junior English teacher. Our personalities seem to mesh well together. Since I had weightlifting 6th period, followed by being an office aid 7th period, Coach Win talked me into joining them for off-season training. This is where I got involved in track and field and the throwing sports. I throw discus and shot put. I found success at the discus, I might say. I really got involved with the team, I love the team mentality, I've thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the group. This is when I caught the football bug. I began training with them and did Summer scrimmages. I love the game!
I began the season playing right tackle, right next to my best friend Race. He plays right guard. I've recently been moved to left guard. This has been an adjustment, but I think I'm handling the change quite well. I've learned a lot so far from the game of football. One thing that I've learned is that football is the most team oriented sport. There is no way a team can work on just a few players, this is when I truly learned about playing for more than just yourself and truly playing for your brothers beside you. I know with the game, learning life lessons will always be a given.
There is no doubt in me at all that I can make it as a collegiate athlete. I'm an extremely hard worker and love being apart of a team. I genuinely love the atmosphere of a team environment. I'm a quick learner and I feel I have a lot of potential to be molded into the role a team needs me to play.
To me going to college isn't just about football. I've already started taking college classes at Coffeyville Community College. I want to move on to a four-year university, majoring in marketing or human resources. I hope to someday live close to my family and hopefully work at Phillips 66 in the human resources department or marketing department.
