Personal Statement

My name is Logan Chastain and I am a 6’1” 288lb Defensive Tackle.  I love football and consider it a privilege to be part of a team where I can make a positive impact.  I have strong core values that influence the way I live my life both on and off the field. Character, integrity, respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship are the core values I work daily to uphold. At every practice and game, I come prepared to give my best attitude and effort to help the team be successful.

My goals are to play college football and earn my Bachelor’s degree. My current areas of interest are Engineering and Law.  I am a versatile student athlete and would be an asset both on and off the field. Academically, I currently have a 3.82 GPA. I love math and science, and am taking my 4th year of Spanish. Family, school, and sports are my top priorities.  I am grateful to have a loving and supportive family consisting of my mom, dad, and younger brother. My parents have taught me to have an extremely strong work ethic, and I hold myself to a high standard of performance as a student, an athlete, and as a person.

On the field, I am an elite pass rusher with both strength and speed, and can play all across the line. I bench 365 lbs and squat 550 lbs. I am frequently double teamed, and possess the quickness and intensity to be extremely difficult to block.

I have played tackle football since I was 9 years old.  I am grateful for the amazing coaches I have had along the way that have all had a positive impact on how I play the game. As a freshman in 2018, I received a Varsity letter in football.  I was a force to be reckoned with during my sophomore season wreaking havoc both on the defensive and offensive line. At the end of my sophomore season, I was recognized for achieving ‘1st team All-League for Defense’ and was awarded ‘Lineman of the Year’ for Clackamas High School.

Covid has created an unprecedented time for us all. In March of 2020, all schools in Oregon went to a distance learning model and the high school weight room was closed indefinitely.  I learned in June of 2020, that football practices would be cancelled for the summer and there was no start date in site for my junior football season.

With the pandemic looming and the world around me changing on a daily basis, I realized that I would need to maintain a solid daily routine for both school and training. For the foreseeable future, this was the ‘new normal’ and I was determined to stay healthy and mentally strong.  I would not let anything get in the way of me putting in the daily work to continue to get faster and stronger.  When the football season finally begins, I will be prepared to positively contribute to my coach and team.

I woke up early before each school day and completed my lifting routine in my garage weight room that my Dad and I built.  I would then complete all of my online classes and finish my homework. After that, I dedicated the remainder of my daily training to conditioning.  A strong focus on time management, self-determination, and never giving up despite the circumstances; has enabled me to successfully navigate life during Covid.

In August of 2020, I was invited to tryout for the ‘Trench Squad’ which is a 5x5 team through Ford Sports Performance. I did well in the tryout and was asked to join ‘Trench Squad’. The team consists of the top offensive and defensive lineman in the region, and is coached by an elite group of individuals.  The 5x5 tournaments have been limited due to Covid restrictions, however, I attend twice weekly highly specialized conditioning and lifting workouts. I live in Portland and FSP is located in Bellevue, Washington. Every Friday afternoon, my Dad and I make the 3 hour drive to the FSP facility. I strive to learn all I can and give my best effort in the every Friday night and Saturday morning training sessions. My Dad and I then make the 3 hour drive back home to Portland Saturday afternoon. I make sure to have all my school responsibilities taken care of, in order to, attend the FSP workouts.

In October of 2020, I was chosen to play in the ‘2020 FSP All Star College ID Camp’ in Olympia, Washington.  Prep Red Zone described me in a preseason pick as the #2 best Defensive Lineman in the state of Oregon for the class of 2022.

I am a highly driven, disciplined, and passionate person. I know that I have the skills, motivation, commitment, and coachability needed to achieve success both on the field and in the classroom in a college setting.

I look forward to earning the opportunity to play for a respected football program while receiving my college education.
