Personal Statement
My goals for any sport are to have fun first. If you aren't enjoying the sport, why keep playing? I enjoy the physicality of football. Hitting, tackling and blocking my man across from me, there is a satisfaction in executing well. The reason why I keep playing football is because of the support of my family, and especially my brother who inspired me as I was just starting out.
Football has become “my” sport. I know that time in the gym, time in the weight room, time sweating pays off in better on-field performance. I am willing to do the extra work to compete with the best. In the end I'm more focused on playing for the team. Football is not an individual sport, it's a team sport. We all have individual jobs, but working together we can gain yards on offense and decrease the other team's yards on defense.
As I have matured, I recognize the importance of academics. My brother, who inspired me to play football, is going on to law school. Academics and personal character are the long-term games. Being a good student and a student of the game, playing with intensity yet with humility are what make me a coachable player. Football is a way for me to enjoy success, enjoy doing, enjoy learning, and may open doors to colleges and programs that would be out of reach without it.
