Personal Statement
My name is Nick Fekula, and I am a senior at Elizabeth Forward High School. I have played 8 positions in 15 games and started every game in my high school career. I am so BLESSED to be GIFTED both athletically and academically. I’m the CAPTAIN of a perennially losing football team that was winless last year, though I continue to work hard and will do whatever it takes to change this.
I broke my left wrist in the 2nd quarter of the first game my Jr. year, and continued to play the next 3 games with a lot of tape and HEART One of the hardest things in my life was missing the rest of my Jr. year in football and also a promising basketball season.
After 6 months of surgery and rehab, I attended the Nike Sparq in Pittsburgh, and had the 11th Best rating of 880 kids. 3rd fastest 40 of the top 25 scores (4.60 Laser). My performance here earned me an invitation to the Nike Elite Prospect Camp at Penn State. That camp featured 11 D-1 receivers and I was playing free safety. I made the Scout.com all Team Defense Team. (Said I was “Built like a LB, plays like a DB”.) I also made the Under Armour Cleveland Combine All Camp Team as a WR in Ohio.
I was asked by Western PA Swag National 7 on 7 Team to play on their team. I was with them on my way to play in the Under Armour national 7 on 7 tourney in Florida when I witnessed the senseless killing of my teammate near Duke’s campus.
I was also invited to the Chesapeake Bowl and Semper Fi Bowl camps and was named to PA’s Top 100 players by Scout.
Academically I have a 4.0 QPA and Rank in the top 5% of my class. I am Secretary of National Honor Society and compete for my school in Math, Physics, and Calculus Science Bowls. I hope that your school can provide me the opportunity to grow and make contributions to your program both academically and athletically. Thank you for your time and consideration.
