I plan to pursue an Engineering degree, in either Biomedical Engineering or Materials Engineering, and I want to do so at a top-ranked engineering college. I also want to continue playing football. Getting a great education is obviously most important, but football has become an integral part of my life, and I’m not ready to stop playing at the end of my high school career.
Here is what I think will make me a good candidate for your program:
I’m prepared academically. I’ve challenged myself by taking as many advanced placement classes as I can in high school, and I’ve still maintained a high GPA. I know that I can succeed at a top-ranked engineering college even while playing football.
I love the physical aspect of the sport. If I wasn’t playing football, I’d still be playing ice hockey, but I found it difficult to play both of those sports at the level I wanted to play. I know how to prepare myself during the off-season by setting and achieving personal goals, and I know what it takes to win a starting position as an underclassman.
I’m mentally tough. Eight years of martial arts training has taught me respect for others, self-discipline, and commitment, and it has instilled in me perseverance and what we refer to as an “indomitable spirit”. I know how to deal with adversity and fight through it, whether it’s in the dojang or on the football field.
I’m a team player. Of course I want to be on the field for every play, but the most important thing is for the team to win. That’s the way I was taught to play the game and that’s the way I approach it now that I have become a team leader meself. If I’m on your team, I will absolutely want the most playing time I can get, but team success will always be my first priority.
