Donald (DJ) Burkey '12 Recruiting Profile

Hello.  My name is Donald Burkey, but I prefer to be called DJ.  I was selected by WesternPa.com in the honorable mention section of the all-state team as a defensive back and was named to the Tribune-Democrat all area team.  I can play corner, strong safety and free safety on defense.  I can play wide out, tail back or wing back on offense.  On special teams I excel at kickoff and punt coverage and am a kickoff returner.  My high school team has won the Pennsylvania Laurel Highlands Conference and PIAA District VI title for the past two years.   I have been a varsity starter for the past two years.   

Playing football and being part of a team has been a big part of my life since the third grade.  I am very determined to be a top notch player and I push myself to excel.  I consider myself dedicated to both athletics and academics.  I also view myself as very disciplined.  I am a leader on my team.  I participate in optional programs such as speed and quickness sessions and mini-camps.  I also choose to lift weights year round (outside of football season) and participate in activities such as running with a weight vest to increase my strength and speed.  I am seeing the results of these activities as my 100 and 200 times decrease in track.  I am seeking the opportunity to continue to play football for a disciplined and winning program and contribute to the success of a team.

Although I would prefer to stay on the east coast, I am open to considering other areas of the country.  Size of a school is also open.   At this point, I am undecided on a major but am evaluating majors in the business field.
