Personal Statement

Hello My name is Alex Spiess and I am a prospective College Athlete. I am seriously interested in playing college football at the highest level possible. Playing college football has been a large goal of mine since I first started watching it on Saturdays. I am a three year varsity member of our football team. I was Captain of my freshman football team and was then moved up to varsity to contribute. As a sophomore I started both ways, playing corner back and wide receiver. I received Most Outstanding Sophomore Award from my coaches, while getting 5 Interceptions to help lead the team to a runner up State Championship. As a Junior, I also had 5 Interceptions and solid defense, as well as starting tight end with numerous receptions, leading the team to a State Championship, while again being awarded Most Outstanding Junior, and 2nd team All Division 1 Rhode Island. As a rising Senior, I have been named Captain of the 2010 Barrington High School Football Team. The Summer of my Junior year has been extremely busy, as I have been doing numerous camps in order to get the most exposure and training I can get. I've performed at the Blue Chip Academy Inivitational Football Camp at Dean College and the Boston College Football Camp, as well as Prospect Days for numerous Schools such as URI, and Marist. I also participated in the National Underclassmen Combine in Boston, where I was then invited to the next stage of the combine in Matawan, New Jersey, where I ranked as the 4th best tightend. I was then invited to Oklahoma for the National Underclassmen Top Prospect Camp, where 100 athletes from each grade are chosen to attend and compete. The Top Prospect Camp left me with a learning experience I have never had before. Playing with some of the best talent in the country and best coaches. My 7 on 7 team went undefeated going to the championship before losing to the team we beat earlier. I played the whole time as Safety and also split time at receiver. After seeing the talent at the Top Prospect Camp, I now know that I have what it takes to play college football at a very high level. And at 6'1" 195 pounds am an ideal size to play defensive back in college, although I am flexible and can and will play offense. I have excellent footwork and body control, and sure hands. I have devoted myself to my athletics and academics, with no distractions, in order to put myself in the best position to play college football and get a good education. I pride myself in working harder than everybody else on the field and have showed my leadership and commitment to my team. I also play basketball and am a 2 year varsity member as well as playing 3 years of AAU basketball for the Rhode Island Hawks. I'm also the first tenor Saxaphone in our very prestigious music program. I have played all types of Saxophone and some piano since the 4th grade. I am looking for a medium to large size school in order for me to have the most opportunities to grow as a person in a college environment. I plan to major in the sciences but am very flexible towards other options. I'm also flexible in where I play, geographically speaking. I am willing to travel in order to play for a successful college. My family does have financial needs as of right now. I feel that playing college football is a rich experience that few people get to have and know it helps you grow as an individual. That is why I plan on attending a university with solid academics and opportunites for me to grow and meet new people while pushing myself on and off the field.
