Personal Statement
College Scouts and Coaches,
My name is Luke Carter, and I am currently a junior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina. This is also my third year playing varsity football at Wilson. My primary position is kicker, and my secondary position is punter. My first year as a freshman, I started on the junior varsity team and was promoted to the varsity squad after the first game. I gained substantial experience that year as the backup kicker and punter. My sophomore year, I began the season as the starting kicker and continued in that role. This year, I will be the starting kicker and punter, as well as a team captain.
My goals are simple and progressive. In 8th grade, I wanted to make the middle school team, learn to kick competitively and excel at my studies. In 9th grade, I wanted to make the varsity roster, gain experience playing at that level, and successfully transition to the IB curriculum. In 10th grade, I wanted to earn a starting position on the varsity squad, acquire the respect of my teammates and coaches, and sustain my academic GPA. I am now entering my 11th grade year, assuming responsibility as a team captain and a dedicated scholar in the IB program. Up to now, I have been successful in achieving each of these goals with strong support from my coaches, my teachers and my parents. For the future, I would like to help my team and my school win division and state championships.
I also want to continue to develop proficiency and consistency as a kicker and maintain a strong academic record. Ultimately, I want to play collegiate football and acquire a good undergraduate education, preferably as a history major. With good coaching, support from my family and friends, and determination and perseverance on my part, these goals are achievable.
