Personal Statement
My name is Avery Robert Williams and I am a junior at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. I am graduating in May 2019. I am the starting wide receiver for the Brentwood High School Varsity football team. Our football team is class 6-A, the largest class in the state of Tennessee (Williamson County District). Last year we made it to the semifinal playoffs and were just one game away from the state. We are a strong committed team with grit and determination. We run a college-style no-huddle offense that passes about 35% of the time. I have a 3.0 GPA and have taken mostly Honor and AP classes all throughout high school. My future academic plans include majoring in biology and pursuing a career in dentistry or physical therapy. I took the ACT in March and scored a 20. I plan on taking it again to get a higher score.
I am an athlete at heart and a true lover of sports. I’ve played at a highly competitive level in the following sports; football, basketball, and track and field, with basketball being my first true love. Before playing football I was on a competitive AAU basketball team and traveled all over the United States, winning numerous AAU championships and was a member on the high school basketball team but decided to focus solely on football and track. I have been a track and field athlete since the 7th grade, competing in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and specializing in the triple jump. During my freshman year I jumped the longest in my district with a 43.0'ft. triple jump. My personal best, this past spring, was a 44'.5" triple jump, which placed me 8th in the state as a sophomore.
I have been blessed to be surrounded by a close knit family with nurturing parents who continue to push me to be the best that I can be and support all my dreams and aspirations. I am the middle child with an older brother and younger sister. I look up to my older brother, that graduated high school in May 2017 and received a scholarship to play Division 1 soccer at East Tennessee State University. He always reminds me that life being a scholar athlete is tough and always says, "It's hard but it's fair", which reminds me that hard work always pays off in the end. My coaches and I believe that playing multiple sports has helped me to become an extremely disciplined athlete on and off the field, keeping my academics at the top of my list. I always push myself to be the best that I can be, whether it's adding an additional honors course to my load or volunteering with a local organization on the weekend doing community service projects. I continue to strive to improve in every aspect of my life. I am a team player by nature and lead by example in everything that I do. My goal is to play at the collegiate level, earn a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and continue to strive for excellence.
