Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Gaither Barker. I am 18 years old. I play football, but I have played baseball and basketball in the past. I just finished my senior year football season. I earned a letter my Freshman year, and was a starter my Sophomore year. Since my sophomore year,I have started varsity Center on my football team. In addition, I have snapped all PAT's and Punt snaps this season. I was voted team captain this season. Last season, I was voted Best Offensive Lineman for 2011-2012. I started all 11 games. And before that, I rotated as a Defensive End. I am very quick off the ball. In addition, I have a heart that barely fits inside my chest and I love to hit people! This quality makes me dangerous. I am 6'3" in my shoes and weigh somewhere around 245 pounds. On Saturdays after our football games, I have had to honor another commitment: helping out around the farm and with my dad and grandfather. Work still goes on whether we have a game or not. I help my dad stack square bales of Vaughn's Hybrid Bermuda, and each bale weighs 50-65 pounds. I come from tough stock; my dad was raised on a dairy farm and work went on whether you played or not. It's for these reasons that I am not afraid of hard work and would like to impact a team in any division on the collegiate level. The school that I am looking for is one that will provide me a great education that will enable me to support a family. I've always been interested in law. Also, agriculture is another field that is in my blood, and I might pursue it. Because I had an opportunity to travel abroad, I realized that the world is a big place. The decisions I make now will influence my future in the world, not just in the United States. It is now a global economy.
