Collegiate goals and aspirations are parts of terminology that I have become acquainted with, especially as my graduation date drawers nearer. For me, football is not just a game; it is a passion I have had for as long as I can remember. High school football has taught me many life lessons that have helped me achieve success on the field and academically. Recognizing someone is always watching, working, and wanting to be where I am standing right now has always guided my accomplishments. Dedication, humility, discipline, receptiveness, positive attitude, hard work, and sacrifice are other character traits I uphold that has allowed me to flourish both on and off the field. For example, I have been in a situation where everything was lost in one play. By recognizing what was broken, accepting, and providing feedback throughout the team, we came together, got back up, and fought for a goal we had already acquired, bringing it to a new level of appreciation because we knew how it felt to lose it. The traits I have mentioned above have allowed me opportunities to build team camaraderie that creates trust, respect, and a team bond that has withstood the impossible. This type of team comradery can withstand losing while maintaining mutual respect and accepting constructive criticism, all while building one another up; it is a team that will overcome adversity and prospers in the end.
Collegiately I aspire to broaden my knowledge, gain experience, and discover who I am and the best version of me. I hope to increase my ability to set attainable short-term goals that will allow me to achieve my long-term plans. Unfortunately, academics have not always come as quickly to me as athletics. Despite this, I have persevered and maintained an A/B honor roll throughout high school. I understand all too well what it feels like to work hard to maintain A’s and B’s; therefore, I know both grades equal success at the end of the day. While I am comfortable knowing and can accept that someone will always be more intelligent, faster, and knowledgeable, I refuse to settle for mediocracy. I will continue to give all of myself in my future endeavors. Give up.
Last but certainly not least, my faith in God will continue to carry me through this adventure we call life and provide me with the perseverance I will need to face even the darkest times.
