Personal Statement
My goal in life is to be the best I can be, and I have learned that to achieve this goal, it takes hard work and dedication. Even though I am team oriented, I always work hard to be the team leader. I would like to continue working and serving as a team leader in whichever situation I find myself. Since my early childhood, I watched my father and mother put on their uniforms every day to make an impact and to serve the community in which we live. My father is a Police Officer and my mother a Nurse, and both are committed to leading, sacrificing and serving his or her fellow man. I believe that I have been drawn, through example, to follow in my father’s footsteps, because my long-term goals include seeking a career in Law Enforcement.
What makes me different from other recruits? Simply said, I come from a strong, close knit family, who has provided excellent role models and one which has encouraged me to work hard and be dedicated. As a child, I was never drawn to what most other kids wanted to do. Watching my father play semi-pro football and growing up in the weight room with him, I found myself working out in the gym and trying to better myself on the football field, baseball field, or any other sports I could find to compete in. I was not interested in playing video games or sitting around the house. I wanted to work on service projects for Boy Scouts or enjoy camping with my troop. My childhood was dedicated and focused on being the best I could be with sports, community service, and grades.
I believe that my athletic experiences, especially football, have prepared me to achieve my goals. I know that the physical demands and team atmosphere of football has allowed me to develop my leadership skills. I have found that with hard work and preparation, I can work to accomplish anything that I put my mind to. My football experiences have given me a unique understanding. I have learned that with proper planning, dedicated practice and dependability, success can be achieved. I have learned that being a team player and preforming your duties for the team before thinking of yourself takes a lot of self-sacrifice, but by doing this, the other players look to me as a leader. Practicing my philosophy has paid off so far. I have won on the field and have improved my self-confidence and self-understanding, which have allowed me to lead. I believe my drive, my experience, my work ethic and my dedication to achieving excellence make the best choice for you and your University.
