Personal Statement

My name is Hunter Saenz, a junior in London High School’s class of 2016 where I have held the Varsity Center and Nose Guard position through 24 varsity games since the inception of my freshman year. I take great pride in having grown up around the gridirons of South Texas’ football culture, snapping my first game ball as a second grade little leaguer. Since then, I became fascinated with physicality and significance the Center and Defensive Nose Guard positions bring to a ball club. Along with my years of experience on the offensive line, I focus on technical proficiency and field awareness as a student of the game. Teamwork, commitment, leadership, and a winning attitude combined with high energy on and off the field best sum up my outlook as an athlete. Putting actions ahead of words, I have earned the Offensive Line/Offensive Leader Captain as well as the Off Season Captain position. I work hard for my rewards every down, every time, and direct my fellow linemen to play 60 minutes of physical, smart football. This year I helped my team by averaging two pancake blocks per game, leading a cohesive offensive line, making local history by powering London to its first ever playoff berth, and earning Second Team All District in the process.

Off the field, I continually work towards accomplishing academic, community, and athletic goals. Since my freshman year, I have served as one of London’s team members on the University Interscholastic League, and I am the lead Sports Writer for the school newspaper. Upon graduation, my sights are set on an accomplished Kinesiology program that can give me the skills necessary to become a college football coach. Currently, I volunteer as a fifth grade basketball coach to gain experience while promoting fitness, teamwork, and sharing my interest in athletic competition. Similarly, I take this opportunity to demonstrate and teach athletes’ responsibility as role models and community builders. The off-season also grants me the opportunity to attend training camps and engage in strength building. I still have four inches to grow and I maintain a dietary and fitness program to achieve the best possible gains. Overall, I intend to eventually coach athletes professionally, and for me, that means first molding myself into the strongest and smartest athlete possible.

I actively seek a competitive program built around solid fundamentals and a commitment to success. My ideal university will challenge me as both as an athlete and scholar, express maturity and mutual respect, and have a thriving football culture. I look forward to speaking with interested schools about how I may fit into their program.
