I want to play college football. It has been my dream since – yes, I remember it – the night Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy for USC. I was 3 years old, and I sat on my dad’s lap when they made the announcement. When they did, my dad and I cheered and high-fived, for he had gone to USC and the Trojans were our team.
I want to play college football. It has continued to be my dream since the first time I put pads on. I was 9 years old. I had played flag football for three years, but it was time to move on. My team was the Bearcats, and by the end of our first practice I was QB1. I remember the thrill of it like it was yesterday.
I want to play college football. It has remained my dream now that I am in high school. My first game as a freshman, I scored a TD and had six tackles. Hearing my name over the PA system, I was entranced. During the first workout with my new coach the spring before my sophomore season, I threw up countless times. Every time I did, I just kept telling myself, the pain, the suffering, was worth it.
That was this morning. I am already counting the days until the next workout!
