Personal Statement

My name is Cole Dane Wick. I am a senior at Sacred Heart Catholic High School (class of 2012) in Hallettsville Texas. I am 6 foot 7 and weigh 220.  I am involved in many different activities both in school and out of school.  I have a very loving and supportive family in which we are involved in many different things in our community. My parents are hard working and sacrificed a lot to put us through private school (four of us). My mom is a teacher who has instilled the importance of academics and a positive attitude, and my dad is an engineer who instilled leadership and hard working ethics in all four of us children. Equipped with those tools I began my athletic activities in soccer and T-Ball at four years of age. I played both of these sports until I could start football (my love) my sixth grade year in junior high. In seventh grade, I was blessed with being tall 6 foot 3 and was a tight end and defensive end for my team. I also played basketball as a post and ran track and competed in high jump. I played through my eighth grade year. I entered high school and as a freshman played JV in football and basketball, but was asked to suit up as a varsity player. My coach told me that my hard work and determination put me there. I went to state in track my freshman and sophmore year. Our track team won state for the first time in Sacred Heart's history. I won state in high jump. My sophmore year I advanced to a starter on varsity for football and basketball. As a senior our team won state and I was voted All-State First Team on Defense and All-State Second Team offense.  I was also voted All State Academic for football.  I feel that I can offer this same enthusiasm in my college sports and academics. I would like to go to a Christian college if possible but will go where I have a chance. I would like to stay in Texas if possible to be close to home. I plan to major in either Engineering, Pre-Law or  Pre-Med. My dream was to be a brain or heart surgeon one day or to major in Business and go to law school. I know that those degrees require discipline and a lot of study time. I have been able to devote time to both academics and sports and maintain around a 3.85 GPA. My dream is to play sports in college, whether it be football or basketball. I am a hard worker, a team player, and believe that you have to work hard and prove yourself to make it on the football field and in life.  I will be all of that for any team that will give me that chance.  I love both sports and hope that I will be able to achieve this dream. I know that if it is meant to be, it will happen. Thank you for this opportunity.
