Personal Statement
Faith and family have been the foundations of my life. Both will play key roles as I begin my recruiting adventure. With a family of seven, me being the youngest of five children, there's a lot of activity and competition. We have all played a lot of sports, and personally I have especially experienced a lot of success in football. So has my oldest brother Kyle who earned a scholarship as a linebacker at Houston Baptist University.
Following this season, in which I led our district championship freshman team with 35 tackles, Katy High School head coach Gary Joseph switched me from outside to inside linebacker. He wants me to play on varsity as a sophomore, and feels this move gives me the best opportunity. It’s a rare opportunity so early at Katy, and Coach Joseph’s vision is that playing inside can be a path to becoming a two year starter. I want to become a leader, and captain, while helping us achieve the ultimate goal in winning more state championships before I graduate. We currently are tied for the most in Texas with eight, and I would love to help lead our team to ten.
Excelling in the classroom is very important to me. I had a 4.3 GPA after my first semester of high school. One of my academic goals is to be in the top 10% of my class when I graduate. I should finish my freshman year off with all A’s except for one B. I have always had an interest in mathematics, as it is my favorite subject, and although I have a lot of time to choose I may be interested in an engineering major.
Other sports I enjoy are basketball and track. To do all three in the 6A division requires a lot of focus, commitment, and perseverance. This year I was one of two Freshman to play JV basketball, and I have earned multiple track medals this spring in the 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, high jump, triple jump, and 110m hurdles.
When I was seven, I made a personal commitment to Christ. Growing in my faith is the top priority in my life. I’m blessed with the opportunity that sports offer, a great platform to share God’s love with others. I’m a student leader at my local church, and with the high school ministry of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) where both my parents have served for 34 years full-time. I help lead Bible studies for my friends sometimes, and I have twice gone overseas to Budapest, Hungary on Cru global missions. I really feel that growing in my faith has contributed greatly to my overall leadership on and off the field.
One of my goals is to earn a college scholarship to play football. Im still trusting that the Lord will show me what colleges I should pursue when the time comes. But for now, I will continue to enjoy relating to people, and looking forward to having the opportunity to get to know the college coaches that I will interact with beginning this spring.
