Personal Statement

My name is Kannon Hunter and I am currently a freshman at Lytle High School. I always tell people that I come from a very small town named Lytle, Texas (if you blink you may miss it). I am 5’7 weighing in at 185 pounds. I play both running back and quarterback for my team. I started my year off playing quarterback for my freshman team and ended up as a running back on the varsity squad. I also play basketball, baseball, run track and powerlift. I am a well-disciplined student athlete on and off the field. I take pride in my school and respect those that take their time to show me how to become the better student athlete. I am also a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, I am a volunteer at my church and am a helper and volunteer for our church functions. I am a member of the Lytle 4-H and have been for the past five years. I raise and show pigs. I also volunteer my time where it all started for me with the Lytle Football Association and the Lytle Youth Program. I have been an assistant coach and/or work the games to give back to my community. I have a love for football like no other but these other organizations have also played a part in my leadership.

Growing up in a small city with my mother has brought me many challenges and I have yet to be defeated. My mom has taught me many things in life and the greatest is that she gave me life. She has seen me work hard and has put forth so much of herself into my football career. My mom is my rock. She is my salvation and hero. She is my mom first and she is also my cheerleader but don’t get it twisted cause she is also my worst critic. I can still remember my football youth games and our drives home would be both good and bad. She would tell me what I did excellent in and she would tell me what I did wrong and where I need work. Without her I cannot take credit for anything. She has showed me what football can do for me and how it can change my life. My family knows my mom’s work ethic and how hard she is on me but they know I will never take anything for granted. She is my backbone. I could go on and on about my mom and how much she gives back to the youth in our community and how much I look up to her but that would take a whole book. Thanks mom for being my mom, dad, coach, team mom, board leader, cheerleader, sports announcer, team critic and my personal critic!

Growing up without a second parent is a struggle and every day is a challenge. School is a challenge but no one ever said life would be easy. We don’t just run from our problems. We find a resolution and learn to be patient through the process. We must work hard for what we want! And in order to get anywhere with football I know I must have my academics in line. Academics is the key to success! Although I may struggle I know that every obstacle I face is for a reason and refuse to be defeated. Working hard and my mom have gotten me to where I am today. She always tells me she loves me and to always be the best student athlete today! Student before athlete is the key to my academic success! Grades before play! Getting to college will only make me a better person and will get me to the next challenge in my life.

I am a work in progress as my mom always tells me. I am a w-i-p, confidant, challenging, sometimes stubborn, well-mannered young man who has learned from every challenge in life. No matter what has happened, at the end of the day, I am still blessed to be where I am now. I have to thank the many trainers my mom has challenged me with and the many teachers that have pushed me along with my mom to get me to where I need to be. Finishing strong in college and getting my academics right will also put me in the right job for my brighter future.
