Who is Joseph Campbell? How did I become a self-motivated, hardworking, and persistent student athlete? I have had many positive influential role models over the years that have inspired me to follow in their footsteps. From Peewee leagues to now high school varsity football, I have encountered some tough coaches. Coaches like Coach Franklin. He has pushed me to be the best physically and academically. Teachers, like my mom, who encouraged me to follow my dreams. I got interested in football when I was just 6 years old. A neighbor was practicing catch with his son outside and he let me join in, ever since then I have become obsessed with the game. I love playing and watching this sport. As for what I have learned about myself while playing this game, I now know that I have what it takes to overcome anything that is thrown my way. We all face obstacles that seem too large to overcome at times, but facing those obstacles brought me courage and determination to succeed in everything that I do, including football and school. Struggling with my weight in 6th and 7th grade was a huge obstacle that brought some depression and a low self-esteem. My peers were not very empathetic. I wanted to prove them all wrong, so I worked and worked until I lost the weight and grew about 5 extra inches. My academics are important to me as well. While the weight was beginning to come off, I focused more on my schoolwork. I was determined to make the best grades possible. Beginning in 7th grade, I raised my grades from “C’s” to all “A’s and B’s”. At the end of that school year, I was inducted into the NJHS program. In 8th grade, I continued to maintain good grades. As for high school, I now strive to increase my GPA each semester by taking more advanced classes. My goal is to graduate in the top 15% of my class or better. I would like to pursue a career in business while attending college. Starting my own business is also a dream of mine. Football has helped me to become a leader. This trait of mine would help me achieve all my business aspirations. So, what other characteristics and skills do I possess that would be an asset to your program? I am positive, resourceful, strong, and dedicated. I would be a valuable addition to your team and one that you could count on to get results that you are looking for.
