Personal Statement

Football has always been in my family.  I grew up watching my uncle Brandon coach at BYU.  My dad and his three brothers all played football there, and I had cousins play at Oregon as well.  I just figured that football is what we do.  I realized as a young boy that if they could do it, so could I.  How am I different?  Well, I believe this is one of the ways.  When I go one on one, I have a favorite post move that I named after my uncle Bryce.  He used it on one of his touchdowns against the Texas Longhorns.  He made his corner fall down.  They all say I play like him.  So that move is the "Bryce Post".

I believe that football is the greatest game ever invented.  I know also that when it comes to football that I am on the smaller end of the spectrum, but that's what they said about Wes Welker.  I consider myself to be a lot like him.  In high school and college, he was a running back, DB, kick returner, and a kicker.  He was considered too small to play in college, and took a late scholarship to Texas Tech.  Well He proved them all wrong.  For my team, I am like Wes.  I play all 5 positions at receiver, I play cornerback or safety (depending on the team we play), I am the kickoff and punt returner, and I am the wildcat quarterback on 4th down where I have the option to punt, pass, or run.  I was given the ironman award for our varsity team last year as a sophomore.  This is awarded to the player that the coaches think they cannot take off the field.  This is me.  I believe I can and want to play wherever the coaches need me to be.  This is another way I am different.  I believe I can play anywhere on the field a college would need me, except the line of course.  I am an athlete that understands the game.  My aspirations and goals for college are to play like Wes Welker did.  He is an athlete that plays with fight, grit, and brains.

I also know though that football is not a forever option.  Even the best players in the world are done playing the game at like age 30.  So, I want to prepare to have an awesome job.  My dad is a dentist, and I love the medical field.  I hope to be able to someday be a doctor.  I study hard in school and have a 4.0 GPA.  My dad always is preaching to me that education is first.  He says it will allow me to do whatever I can dream up.  I agree.  In football I have the ability to see the whole field, and I think that same ability would allow me to be a great surgeon.  This is my educational goal.  I hope to find a college that will allow me to play football at a high level, and allow me to pursue my goals of medicine.

I also am an Eagle Scout.  I earned this rank when I was 14, and have spent a lot of nights hiking and camping in the mountains near my house.  In order to earn this award, I had to earn 21 merit badges and lead my own service project.  This helped teach me to be a leader and a finisher.  My dad told me that only 4% of scouters actually follow through to become an Eagle.  I am proud that I learned to follow through, and I am proud to be an Eagle Scout.  I believe this also makes me different from most.

Well, this is me in a nutshell.  I hope you get a chance to look through my profile and watch my video.  I look forward to the next step in my athletic and academic career.  Thanks for taking the time to read my personal statement.
