Personal Statement
When I found out I had set 3 records this year in high school football, I was just as surprised as anyone. I mean, I shattered the previous state yards received record by nearly 500 yards, setting a record of 2564 total yards! This year alone, I had 120 receptions and 40 touchdowns. These records could stand for years, maybe a lifetime!! But if you want to know what sets me apart from all the others wanting to get into your football program – it is that this was a surprise. I have never spent a season wondering if I will get into record books or wondering who I have impressed. I simply love to play, with total heart and aggression, and I love the feel of flying into the air and landing the impossible catch – or making the perfect block so my teammate can score. I honor this game of football and the players and coaches around me that have gotten me this far. I want to go farther and make this a stepping stone so my talent can benefit a college program. When my family and I realized how many records I had set is when I knew that I’m good enough to take this to the college level.
My coach says this about me – “He makes explosive plays happen. When its do or die, I can count on Grant to give us the opportunity to play on. I can craft skilled plays instead of desperate efforts. His ability to perform under pressure is exceptional for an athlete of his age and maturity and he is gritty tough. When Grant Kinzer is in the game – you don’t want to go to the can!!” Another value I can bring is that I am very coachable; I am a three sport varsity athlete and have been team captain four times because I will lead by example on and off the field. When playing, I am consistent and give my all on every play and expect that of those around me. Off the field, my focus is being a good citizen, good grades and having a strong work ethic. I don’t just say those lightly, I prove them. I have good grades, I have never had problems that are common with young adults, such as drugs/law/respect.
When it comes to work ethic – I live on a large dryland farm that is 5th generation family owned. There is always work to do and the days are very long. Summertime in my world is not about playing – its about working together to bring in the crops that will feed our family for an entire year. And I love being a part of it. It has taught me not only work ethic, but problem resolution skills, the ability to learn from my mistakes and to have a good sense of humor through it all.
With my background and talent for the game of football, proven by relentless performance, I would be a great asset to your program.
