Personal Statement
HI. My name is Corey Shaffer. I am a Jefferson Cougar Football Player. I am 6’4 315 lb Offensive/Defensive Tackle. I have a 4.0 GPA . I am looking to major in the field of sports medicine with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.
Along my journey to becoming a collegiate athlete, I enjoyed playing the game of football at various levels of competition. I started playing youth football when I was nine years old. I was lucky enough to have good coaches who taught me the fundamentals of playing. We also were the league champions my second year of playing. It was a great feeling to win the championship at an early age. I continued playing in middle school. At the middle school level, I played on both the offense and defense. During this time, I learned to love playing the position of offensive tackle the most. I have continued to play on my high school team as both offensive and defensive tackle. Playing both sides during every game has taught me about the need for not only having physical strength, but stamina to be able to play both ways during an entire game. My teammates and I have worked hard to build a cohesive relationship. Working hard and building each other up has helping us all improve our skills despite our team’’s record. We took the oppportunity during the off season to train and work hard to develop our personal skills which definitely shows on the field.
I consider myself to be a leader on and off the field. I have high expectations for myself and my academic success. I want to attend a college that will provide me with an opportunity to be successful on and off the field. I am looking to attend a Division 1 or 2 school.
While I may have a quiet and reserved personality, I speak loudly with my actions. I believe my family comes first and I treat others with respect. My parents have always supported my goals and dreams. I am lucky to have a great support system. Being a part of a blended family has helped me gain a respect for all individuals. I live by the motto of working hard and staying focused to achieve success.
