Personal Statement
It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Sheldon D. Cruickshank, and I'm currently a junior at The Milwaukee School of Languages and possess a grade point average of 3.5. At present I am working diligently to improve it. Becoming a Dentist, playing football at college and then moving on to playing professional football is a goal I expect to achieve. Failure or quitting on my goals is not an option; hence the reason I start my day by reminding myself that the " Difficulties In My Path Will Not Defeat My Ambition".
Standing at 6 feet tall and 170 lbs , being a wide receiver and a outside line backer is a position I take very seriously. As a matter of fact I've played both offence and defense. My love for the game of football began at the age of 8. I have a great deal of respect for the game itself. There is so much more than running and passing a football to the game. One needs to be able to read between the line, anticipate the opponents move and so much more than meet the eye. I am dedicated to the sports and is opened to switching to whatever position I will best serve while at college. Respect is a quality gained rather than given; therefore I live by example. I have a great amount of respect for my coaches and team mates. The core value of respect and discipline to others and their property is a skill set that stems from the core teachings of my home base.
Knowing that nothing good comes easily in life, has propelled me into giving the game 100% of my efforts. Always punctual and ready to learn. There is always room for improvement, always something new to learn. I am a coach-able player who pays attention to details. I would be honored if given the opportunity to play in an environment where I could learn from others and also pass on my knowledge of the sports to help in the improvement of the team.
I strive to better myself and the person's around me. Being the oldest in my family makes me set very high standards for myself. I aim in becoming a positive role model, someone my younger siblings can look up too and emulate. I will also be a first generation college grad in my family. An opportunity I am willing to grab with both hands. Making my parents, coaches, and others in my immediate circle beam with pride is a personal goal of mine.
Off the football field I tutor students in subjects such as math, science and English. The game of chess has also giving me an outlet where I can spend my free time. I am a member of the chess program at my school and has taken part in many tournaments in past. The idle mind is said to be the devil workshop, with me there is no idle time. I volunteer at a day care where I teach the littlest about the game of football. A simple task such as learning to throw a football brings so much joy to the kids that it makes me feel proud to be an ambassador for the game itself. During the summer vacation I assist my coach with little league football.
I am open to attending a college where I can find balance between the classroom and the field. A College where the coaches are as dedicated to my performance on and off the field. Achieving my goals in life is a task I take very seriously.
Thank you for taking the time out to read my mission statement and thanks for the consideration.
Sincerely yours
Sheldon D. Cruickshank.
