Personal Statement
My name is Frank Vruwink. I am a three sport athlete participating in football, basketball, and baseball. I love to play football, and it has been my goal, ever since I can remember, to play football in the NFL. While I know the chances are slim, I know the next step in achieving my goal is playing college football. I am open to any opportunity to play in college; although I want to be able to play at the highest level I can while pursuing a degree in Biology or English.
Currently, I play right offensive tackle and defensive tackle/end for Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. I am a 6'4", 240 pound, senior. I run a 4.95 forty-yard dash and have a 27" vertical jump. I have a 500 pound squat and a 275 pound bench press. These stats are always a work in progress, however, because I am constantly pushing myself to my physical limits. I bring an extreme work ethic to the table along with leadership, passion, a positive attitude, pride balanced with humility, and a competitive spirit. I have a work ethic unmatched by anyone. Not only do I continually strive to improve on the football field by lifting, running, and being a student of the game, I don't accept anything less than the very best effort of myself in the classroom. With a 3.935 GPA and a class rank of 12th in a class of 469, as a three sport athlete, I think that those grades speak for themselves, but I am continually striving to do better.
My passion for the game is evident in the way I play. Whether my team is up by 40 or down by 40, I am going to be giving it my all. Even after getting home at 1:00 am from a game, you will find me in the weight room the next morning by 6:00. Playing, I always try to have a positive attitude. I know that staying positive gets a better response from people than by being negative. The pride I have pushes me to be the best football player, student, brother, son, friend, and all around best person I can be. I live above peer pressure, and I always strive to do things the right way and never cut corners. My competitive spirit pushes me to always need to win. Whenever I play, I play for the love of the game; for the fun and joy of playing. There is no fun in losing, and that is why I play to win. However, the scoreboard isn't the only reflection of a win.
With all of these things in mind, I also strive to be humble. Through my Christian faith, I have learned the only way to live is with humility. That is why it is extremely difficult and unpleasant writing about me.
I have tried to take all of my attributes and use them to be a leader. I was captain of my freshman football team and was a co-captain on varsity as a junior. This year, I am a captain again of the football team, as well as a captain of the baseball team. As a leader, I try to lead by example and expect more out of myself than others expect out of me.
All of the work I have put into football hasn't gone unnoticed. My first year playing on the offensive line was last year as a junior, and I was fortunate enough to receive 1st team all-conference and all-region honors. I was also chosen as a News Channel Seven All-Star. I recently found out I have been given the honor of being chosen unanimous 1st team all-conference this year.
In the past, I have played quarterback and defensive end, playing defensive end on varsity as a sophomore and right tackle as a junior.
I look forward to the challenges and adventures in my future. I plan to continue to pursue my life and my goals with passion and faith.
