Personal Statement
When I was younger, I played many sports in which I excelled. Basketball, however, became an interest in middle school and was the first sport I ever tried out for. The first time I tried out I did not make the team, but that made me mentally stronger and also made me want to keep working. I worked very hard over the summer in a local inner city league where the competition was tough and against kids much older than me. I returned to this league the following two summers, each year my team making it to the championship game but losing until the final year. This victory meant a lot but I learned more from losing the two years prior. It drove me to continue to train, taught me sportsmanship and what it was to be a team player. I made my JV school team in 8 th &9th grade and again experienced losing seasons. Being one of the older kids on the team at a small school, I stepped up as a leader and let my passion for the sport motivate the rest of the team. As a sophomore, I moved up to Varsity and we finished the season as runners up in our area which was a huge accomplishment in our small town not well known for their basketball skills. I am looking forward to the next two years but have my eyes set on the future. I am committed to constantly improving game on a mental and physical level. I feel I have the determination, drive, discipline and sportsmanship in addition to skill set to continue to play at the collegiate level and hope to find the school that is right for me academically as well as athletically.
